SOLD 57406 William Weekes OOB, "The Latest Arrivals"

This is one of a "pair" of Weekes paintings offered for sale.  This neatly executed oil on board is 8" x 11 1/2" and is framed in a highly ornate wood and gesso frame correct to the period.

Herbert William Weekes (1864-1904) is best known for his genre and animal paintings.   The family was well known in the art world of the day; Weekes' father was the sculptor Henry Weekes RA and his elder brother the genre painter, Henry Weekes Jr..   Herbert William Weekes frequently portrayed animal subjects in humanlike situations or interacting with humans in amusing ways.  This artist's work clearly brings out the beauty of the countryside and his accurate and vivid use of color makes for a painting that is pleasing to the eye.

Exhibited : Royal Academy and other major London venues.
