56726 Upper Salt River Tonto Cooking Pot No Longer Available
Tonto area clay cooking pot approx. 9" x 9" blackened on the outside. Cooking pots were made of coarse clay which fired into brown and grey . Archaeologists in the 1940's excavated, repaired and documented areas of the Upper Tonto Ruins before the dam changed traceable irrigation tracts and some dwellings. They found and reconstructed through documentation, the ways of the pre-historic natives in that area. They found pots, potsherds, stones and dessicated body parts in the nearby cliff dwellings. The Tonto cliff dwellings were built by the Salado group of the Pueblo Indians.
