The solid nickel cross guards have  smooth surfaces displaying minor age signs.  The edges remain crisp.  The upper and lower guards have a yellowed patina appearance probably resulting from handling, that matches the patina and wear marks on the scabbard mounts. The lower cross guard is Gau-stamped stamped Wf.   The grip appears to be made of  fruitwood having a beautiful reddish-brown color with an strong vertical grain.  There is a chip on the handle by the guard and some wear dents .  No fractures are present.   The SA runes button is the flat style being slightly recessed.  It shows a few faint scratches and no chips.  The nickel grip eagle is the point behind the head variety showing almost no wear and age.  The blade is a bright example, appearing to have all the cross graining present.  The SA motto is a well-etched and well-preserved example, having nearly 100% back ground remaining in the recess areas reading, "Ulles fur Deutschland". The blades grades fine condition. There are tiny chips that would sharpen out and asmall 1mm fracture (see pictures) on the blade edge. The reverse side has a single circle containing the company’s name and location around the perimeter Carl Schmidt Sohn A.G., Solingen.  Inside the circle is a little church with two crosses on the roof..  The scabbard shell has  pinhead sized pitting throughout.  The original factory lacquer is nearly all gone while the anodizing shows much wear/age rendering a very dull appearance.  The nickel fittings are in very collectible condition.  The upper one has minimal scratches while the lower shows many carrying dimples and minor scratches to all sides and the ball.  The screws are in place and turned.  A very collectible example by a SCARCE maker!
