A George Gibbs of Bristol (England) Match rifle, .461 caliber, Farquharson's Patent drop lock match rifle. The rifle is 53" overall with a 36" barrel and a 14 1/4" length of pull. The tapered bore barrel is stamped " Metford's Patent 1007" and "George Gibbs , 29 Corn Street, Bristol" on the top of the barrel. The reciever is stamped " Farquharson's Patent 285" on the right and "George Gibbs Bristol" on the left side. The grip and forend tip are capped with buffalo horn. The butplate is steel that has been hand checkered. The English walnut stock is crisply checkered on the forearm and pistol grip. This longarm features a rear position, wrist position, barrel mounted rear sights and multiple front sight apreture. This beautifully cased rifle comes with spare firing pin, mainspring, screw driver, wad cutter, false muzzle, powder measure, boxed sights, oil can, cleaning rod and bullet mold. The leather/ oak and brass cornered case is 56 1/2" long with the handle and two leather mid straps missing. There is a well written article in the 8th edition of Gun Digest 1954 pgs.12-15.
