SOLD 53351 David Fraser 1880 Falling Block Rifle in .360caliber
A very finely made, .450 caliber falling block rifle made on Fraser’s 1880 patent. The 26” round barrel is ribbed and retains 95% blue. The top of the rib is matte finished and features a beaded blade front sight, with a multiple leaf rear sight. The barrel bears the markings, “DAN’L FRASER & CO./GUN AND RIFLE MANUFACTURERS/4 LEITH ST TERRACE EDINBURGH”. Toward the breech, the barrel is marked with a crown over “V” and two city inspection/guild marks. There is a crown over “V” at the top of the frame. The frame is perimeter engraved with a geometric pattern. The English walnut stock has a checkered fore end and checkered pistol grip and is equipped for sling swivel to be attached. The butt plate is gutta percha. The top of the steel breechblock is marked, “FRASER’S PATENT/ No. 133”. A great hunting rifle, by one of Scotland’s foremost makers.
