Model 1817 "Common Rifle", dated 1825 on both barrel tang and lock. 54 cal, in original flintlock configuration. The lock showing considerable case colors and deep markings, "R. & J.D. JOHNSON" in center, while "1825" and "MIDDtn CONN" is marked, vertically, in two lines, to the rear of the hammer. The 36", round, browned barrel retains almost all its original finish, and in deep markings, at the breech, "US", "P", "JW". Three bright barrel bands hold the barrel to the stock. An inspector's stamp, "JW" is sharply impressed in an oval cartouche on the left side of the stock. The stock with original finish, showing minor storage dings. The original ramrod is present. Overall collector's condition is excellent.
